It’s not every day that smartphones receive significant new features. Although there are monthly system updates for Android, these usually only bring minor innovations.
But now, a new function is supposedly being rolled out that brings a little more change. Google is introducing an option that allows you to easily summarise content from websites.
How does this work?
According to Android Police, you can activate the new function via a menu by holding down the side button on your phone, which is normally used for power and voice assistant controls. The prerequisite is that you use Google Chrome as the browser on your phone, because only then can Google’s Gemini AI capture the content.
You can use the “Summarise page” button to extract all relevant information contained in an article, Wikipedia entry or Google search result. This should be particularly helpful for quick articles or those which take a long time to get to the points.
In the Gemini app, you can then ask further questions about the content that has been summarised for you or have further articles recommended.
Previously, you had to tediously copy out URLs, open the AI app of your choice, and then paste them in to receive summaries by prompt, so this will make things much easier.

Who gets the feature?
Apparently, the function should be available for all Android devices eventually. However, it looks like Samsung Galaxy phones will be first in line. For other manufacturers, it may take some time before you can use the button to summarise.
In the future, iPhones should also be able to use Google Gemini in this way, but an exact timetable for this is not known.
Incidentally, a similar function has already been available for over a year in the Samsung Internet app when you activate the browser assistant. This can not only summarise content, but also translate it for you.
As we reported last week, Gemini on your phone is also about to get more useful (and less annoying).
