- Poor iPhone Air sales to blame
- Rumours had been positive
The iPhone Air 2 may be delayed, as Apple continues to struggle to get a handle on the skinny smartphone format.
Sales of the iPhone Air 2 have reportedly been poor since its September rollout, which appears to have prompted a bit of a rethink at Apple HQ.
According to a new The Information report Apple recently “notified engineers and suppliers that they were taking the next iPhone Air off the schedule without providing a new release date”.
That’s a bit of a shame, as initial reports about Apple’s follow-up to the pretty-but-flawed iPhone Air sounded encouraging.

The iPhone Air 2 was sounding good
We were hearing that the iPhone Air 2 would feature a second camera, a vapour cooling system, and a larger battery capacity, which might well have addressed our most pressing criticisms of the original.
It seems Apple hasn’t yet cancelled the iPhone Air 2 altogether, which is something at least. Work appears to be going ahead on the phone.
However, the lack of a firm release window doesn’t fill us with confidence that we’ll be seeing a refined second generation product.
According to the original report, Foxconn has “dismantled all but one and a half of its production lines for the first version and expects to halt all production by the end of the month”.
It’s fair to say that the iPhone Air has not been the hit that Apple had hoped it would be, and may well follow the path of the iPhone 13 Mini and the iPhone 16 Plus towards the great scrap bin in the sky.
