While Google is currently rolling out Android 17 to its first users, Samsung is also working on the latest version of its mobile operating system. One UI 9 is already available as a beta and will soon be released to everyone who owns a newer Samsung Galaxy.
One useful new feature of One UI 9 is said to be a new widget that lets you see at a glance how fast your current internet connection is. Normally, Samsung devices can only display this via third-party apps. Now Samsung wants to handle this itself, as reported by the website Sammobile.
How the new display works
Samsung devices will display the current internet speed in real time. The corresponding icon is located in the top right-hand corner of the status bar and is set to show both upload and download speeds.
The feature is designed to work with both mobile data and Wi-Fi connections. However, it only displays the current speed, not the signal strength. That said, the measurement is said to be fairly accurate.
This change could prove quite handy for users who own a Samsung Galaxy smartphone. There are other ways to check internet speed but they involve using a separate app or a web tool.

How to get the feature
Currently, only One UI 9 beta testers have access to this feature. It’s specifically available for the Galaxy S26 series. However, it shouldn’t be long before more users gain access, as the final release is expected in July.
There’s one important thing you need to bear in mind: although the feature is part of Samsung’s official offering, you’ll also need to install the Good Lock app from the Samsung App Store or the Google Play Store.
This app combines several additional features developed specifically for Galaxy smartphones. However, you must actively choose to use it – it’s not pre-installed.
If you already have the app (and are taking part in the One UI 9 beta), simply open the app and select the Quick Star extension. Once installed, you’ll find the ‘Visibility of Indicator Icons’ option there. Then go to ‘Network Speed’ and enable this option.
