In summary
- Gemini now accessible on older Flip phones
- Galaxy Z Flip 6 confirmed
- Fully function except for screen sharing
Samsung seems to be bringing its Gemini AI feature to the cover displays of its older foldable phones.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE added the ability to access Google’s Gemini AI assistant from their external screens. This helped Samsung to overhaul an underbaked cover screen system, especially compared to the freewheeling solution provided by the likes of the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra.
However this handy feature has remained inaccessible to older models – until now. Android Authority reports that Gemini is now accessible on their Galaxy Z Flip 6. All you need to do to add it is to issue the ‘Hey Google’ command, or add the app to Samsung Good Lock’s launcher widget.

Gemini on your Flip cover display
As the website points out, a long press of the power button won’t do it. Rather, it will continue to prompt you to “open phone to continue,” which is far from ideal.
With that small but irritating interface quirk aside, all of Gemini (except for screen sharing) is at your disposal without needing to open up your older Galaxy Flip phone.
The addition of the feature comes at a time when Samsung is really getting its software update game in gear. Just today we reported on the news that the manufacturer was finally rolling out its One UI 8 and Android 16 update to older phones.
That includes the Samsung Galaxy S23 range, the Galaxy Z Flip 5, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+ tablet.
