Is OnePlus on its way out?
Yesterday, an incredible Android Headlines report suggested that it was in the process of “being dismantled”, citing poor sales and scaled-back operations.
In the aftermath, Tech Advisor reached out to our OnePlus PR representative for comment, and we’ve now received this official response from the company:
“Existing business operations for OnePlus Europe continue to proceed as normal. All users’ after-sales support, software updates, and rights commitments are fully guaranteed“.
OnePlus’ North America and Indian divisions have also responded to Android Headlines, describing the report as “false” and reaffirming their commitment to their users.
While this suggests nothing will change for the foreseeable future, it doesn’t guarantee OnePlus’ longer-term future.
In the short term, it looks like OnePlus will continue launching phones. Next up appears to be the OnePlus Nord 6, which was spotted on the Geekbench database just minutes before OnePlus Europe provided Tech Advisor with its official comment.
But beyond that, the future remains very uncertain. The evidence compiled by Android Headlines is compelling, suggesting that parent company Oppo is ready to pull the plug on its 12-year-old sub-brand.
If that materialises, it means we may never see successors to the excellent OnePlus 15 and 15R, or any new tablets or smartwatches, which would be a huge shame.
