The Denis Villeneuve-directed films based on Dune by Frank Herbert are among the most creative contemporary sci-fi productions. Later this year, Dune: Part Three will bring the cinematic saga of Paul Atreides to a close.
Set 17 years after the events of the second film, the story will reveal the consequences of Paul’s rise to power. A terrible war is ravaging the galaxy, and the Atreides’ enemies are plotting against them. Will Paul and his family survive? And what will become of the planet Arrakis, known as Dune, and its Fremen and sandworm inhabitants?
The first trailer promises an extraordinary spectacle, with stunning visuals, spectacular battles, bizarre inventions and mesmerising characters. According to the director, Dune 3 will take viewers to “areas of the planet not seen before. And we are visiting new planets as well”.
Who’s starring in Dune: Part Three?
Warner Bros. has already announced the cast for the concluding film.
Returning to their roles are:
- Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides
- Zendaya as Chani
- Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica
- Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan
- Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck
- Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam
- Javier Bardem as Stilgar
- Isaach de Bankolé as Farok
One of the biggest surprises is the return of Jason Momoa – the actor will play the resurrected Duncan Idaho, Paul’s swordmaster and mentor.
In the third instalment, we’ll also see a more substantial performance from Anya Taylor-Joy as Paul’s sister, Alia. The actress made a surprise appearance in the second film – her cameo hinted at the family’s future.
Robert Pattinson’s fans also have reason to be excited. In Dune 3, the actor will play Scytale, a so-called Face Dancer from the Tleilaxu community. The genetically modified shape-shifter will plot a conspiracy aimed at overthrowing Paul.
Paul and Chani’s children will also appear in the film. Nakoa-Wolf Momoa will play Leto II Atreides, whilst Ida Brooke will portray Ghanima Atreides.
When could tickets for Dune: Part Three go on sale?
Dune: Part Three is scheduled to release globally on Friday, 18 December 2026. Fans will therefore have quite a while to wait for the premiere, though tickets will go on sale well in advance, given that Denis Villeneuve’s film will be one of the year’s biggest releases.
