Apples cheaper iPad tablet models could be set for some significant upgrades.
The iPad Pro is the best tablet on the market if money is no object, and has been for quite some time now. Apple’s cheaper tablet options are also very strong, but it can often feel like they’re somewhat neglected by Apple when it comes to keeping their spec sheets up to date.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who’s pretty reliable on all things Apple, the cheaper iPad models are set to receive some much needed love.
The journalist claims that an iPad refresh is coming soon, and while there won’t be any radical design updates, the cheaper variants could be set to benefit the most.

It seems the regular iPad will receive a major boost by switching from the A16 of the current model to Apple’s A18 chip. While this isn’t the latest processor in Apple’s arsenal, it will crucially enable the baseline iPad variant to access Apple Intelligence features for the first time.
We can expect Apple to make a lot of this fact in its marketing for the new iPad.
The iPad Mini is predicted to receive its own major upgrade. This time, it’s the display that will take a turn for the better, with Apple’s compact tablet adopting OLED technology for a more vibrant picture with deeper contrast.
Elsewhere, the iPad Air will reportedly move to a speedier Apple M4 chip, but make no mistake – the next round of iPad updates is going to be all about those cheaper models.
As such, our recommendation to anyone considering a non-Pro iPad purchase is to hold fire. The new iPad models won’t look all that different, but they’re set to be much better than their predecessors.
