Google has just bolstered its Google TV platform with a trio of new Gemini AI-enhanced features.
Using Google’s Gemini AI assistant on compatible Google TV screens and devices is about to get a lot smarter, judging from a new update post issued by the big G.
First up, Gemini on Google TV television sets is getting more nuanced with its responses to your questions. Asking for sports scores will produce a live scorecard along with guidance on where you can watch the game. Recipe requests will apparently surface video tutorials.
Another new addition is something that Google is calling “deep dives”. These supply narrated visual breakdowns when you enquire about educational topics like health and wellness, economics, or technology.
Google uses the illustration of explaining the physiology of cold plunging, with a step-by-step interactive guide on the subject and related follow-up questions.
Just look for the option to “Dive deeper” when you launch a Gemini query on your Google TV, or check out the Gemini tab and select “Learn”.

Finally, Google TV will now allow you to access sports briefs – insert puerile underwear joke here. Like the news headline summaries that were added last year, these give you narrated overviews of your chosen sports leagues, including player news and game summaries.
The bad news for most of the world is that these will only incorporate American sports leagues right now, including the NBA, NCAA basketball, NHL, MLB, MLS, and NWSL.
Indeed, as this limited range of sports coverage suggests, Google’s latest batch of Gemini-flavoured Google TV updates is only available in North America at present.
Those richer visual help features are rolling out to Google TV screens and streamers in the US and Canada now, while deep dives and sports briefs are US-only for now. Boo.
To end on a positive note, though, Google says that the Gemini for Google TV voice assistant is coming to Australia, New Zealand and Great Britain this spring.
