Google has started rolling out the first update to Android 17 since its problematic debut, fixing at least some of the early teething problems.
Android 17 started arriving on Pixel phones on 16 June, and we’ve been reporting on the ensuing stream of bugs and glitches ever since. It’s fair to say that things have not gone smoothly for what should be a ‘stable release’.
Hopefully, this first Android 17 update will go some way to making up for that.
The July 2026 security patch is here for everything from the Google Pixel 6 right through to the Google Pixel 10a, and every Google phone released in between.

Android 17 bugs squashed
The officially released list of fixes is hardly extensive, but it’s welcome nonetheless.
Perhaps the biggest news here is that Google has addressed the Android 17 system issue that saw some Pixel devices failing to load or becoming stuck in a boot loop.
Google’s update also fixes an issue that saw certain apps crashing or failing to launch. It also fixes a bug that saw system widgets displaying incorrectly.
There was an issue with Pixel Fold devices that saw navigation buttons changing alignment after folding and unfolding. That should now be sorted.
Finally, a bug that saw the wallpaper shape effect incorrectly covering the subject rather than appearing in the background has been squashed.
Good work, Google. Now, about those connectivity and random touchscreen input issues…

Pixel 11 launch confirmed
Google will want to get its Android 17 house in order, given the recent confirmation that it will be announcing the Google Pixel 11 range on 12 August.
That’s a little earlier than we predicted (though only by six days), and Google will want to hit the ground running with its glossy new phones.
Especially so now that we’ve had it confirmed that Samsung will beat Google to the punch with its own Unpacked event on 22 July.
Google is expected to offer a slightly more exciting upgrade than last year, particularly with the Pixel 11 Pro, but it probably won’t have anything as exciting as the brand-new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide).
