Following a price hike last spring, Spotify is hitting UK customers with another one, working out to around an 8.3% increase.
Customers on the Individual, Duo, and Family plans will have to pay more each month to stream music and podcasts.
However, it’s not all doom and gloom. You can beat the Spotify price hike, and we’ll tell you how.

How much is Spotify going up by in the UK?
First reported by Sky News, these are the new prices for Spotify:
- Individual – Increasing from £11.99 per month to £12.99 per month
- Duo – Increasing from £16.99 per month to £17.99 per month
- Family – Increasing from £19.99 per month to £21.99 per month
The good news is that the Student plan will remain at £5.99 per month, and of course, the Free option won’t change.
When will the Spotify price hike take place?
Spotify has confirmed that customers will be notified via email about the new prices, and from that there will be a one-month grace period before the new costs kick in.
So, if you get an email today, that’s from 24 November 2025.
If you signed up for a free trial, then you’ll pay the old prices for one month before switching to the new ones. New subscribers will pay the increased costs.
You can of course cancel before then, or try out another method…
Avoid the Spotify price hike in UK by buying a gift card
The only real way to lock in for the lower Spotify prices is to buy a long-term gift card and redeem it before the subscription changes come into effect. Keep in mind that this method is only applicable to Spotify Premium Individual, as no gift cards are on offer for the Duo and Family plans.
You can buy a 12-month one from Argos which will save you over a whopping £35 compared to paying the new monthly costs for the same time period (£120 vs £155.88).
Argos has confirmed in the Q&As that this item will still grant users a year’s worth of Spotify despite the price hike announcement, and Spotify also states on it’s help pages that it will honour gift cards bought at the old prices at this time.
GET 12 MONTHS OF SPOTIFY PREMIUM AT THE OLD PRICE
This is an e-gift card, so you shouldn’t need to wait for the postman – just an email landing in your inbox, or a text message. You can also buy it from Currys.
We don’t yet know when Argos or Currys will change these prices, so we’d advise buying sooner rather than later. If we had to estimate, the last date we’d suggest waiting until would be 23 November 2025, just under a month from now – as that’s during the one-month grace period.
You can then redeem your code against your Spotify account, though you may need to cancel your plan first. If that doesn’t work, try contacting Spotify. You can find more information in Spotify’s terms and conditions.
Other ways to avoid the Spotify price hike
If buying a gift card isn’t for you, then the only other ways to save money are by downgrading your plan, or seeing if you can get it as a free benefit through a mobile contract.
Failing all that, you can always cancel Spotify.
